Generosity through Spring and Summer
Rooted Generosity and friends have spent all of spring, and the start of summer, seizing a myriad of service opportunities. We have been working together to grow community through kindness. These activities have been helping us to build new and deeper relationships. We are sowing seeds of love and compassion as an extension of Jordan's way of living generously.
On April 21st, some of our Rooted Generosity "framily" teamed to plant a vegetable garden, to clear the weeds, and to create beautiful hanging flower baskets for the residents of the Sean Humphrey House. The house provides ongoing support for Whatcom folks living with HIV/AIDS.
our annual dodgeball scholarship fundraiser.
On April 26th we hosted "Brewers Dodging Balls" in the Mountain Room at Boundary Bay. This was an important dodgeball team recruitment effort led by Brian Skywalker. Attendees shared lots of laughs, watched Ben Stiller's classic film, Dodgeball, and laid out their plans for participation in our annual dodgeball scholarship fundraiser.
On May 19th, eight determined dodgeball teams converged at the Bellingham Sportsplex to battle it out at "Dodge Generously" - our annual fundraising tournament. Jordan smiled down on all the fun, because this year the Boundary Bay team WON!!!! Jordan had rallied teams for several years and victory had been elusive.
On July 7th, John Mark and Mona hosted a BBQ at their home to mark the second year anniversary of Jordan's passing. Attended by family, and many of Jordan's closest friends, the picnic was a time of laughter, sharing, and celebrating Jordan.
Also in July, the board of the Jordan Slagle Boundary Bay Scholarship selected the 2018 JSBB Scholar. The 3000- dollar gift will help Gina Garding complete her path toward becoming a certified teacher. We look forward to celebrating this next step of generosity.
